![]() My weekday was transformed from a mundane one to a magnificent one when I decided to stop over at Dinshaw’s Xpress Cafe for a munch including some smashing new sugary offerings. Also, while various fares of bawa bhonu remain their most sought after offerings, there are other interesting mentions in their menu that beckon applaud. A few of these being the drool-worthy, addictive, not-for-the-diet conscious POTATO FRIES. What makes these regular fries extraordinary are the lip-smacking decadent toppings they are presented with. So, here is a look at my gluttony with the fries and new dessert menu at this place: FRIES 1. EPIC SCHEZWAN CHEESY FRIES I was off to an appetising start to my munching with a platter of crispy potato fries doused in my favorite, spicy schezwan sauce topped with melted cheese and a touch of desi tadka. Each element exhibited itself in a beautiful way in the dish and the sauce for me was the hero that accentuated the profile of the dish bringing the right amount of heat and a beautiful ginger-garlic flavor. 2. BBQ CHICKEN AND CHEESE FRIES Now, it was time to dig in to fries with a delicious non-vegetarian topping. The chicken chunks were plentiful, succulent and had lovely smokey and sweet flavor. The combination of chicken, cheese and fries was one that is lingering on my palate. 3. THE MAC N CHEESE FRIES I was excited to try this combination but was left underwhelmed. While the textures of macaroni and fries were absolutely perfect but the overall dish felt a bit dry owing to the meagre quantity of cheese sauce in it. Also, a very unusual garnish of orange rind added citrusy notes to the dish and this was not a very pleasant addition as it stole away from the typical cheese driven experience I was hoping. DESSERTS After a hearty round of fries it was time for some sugar rush and it did turn out to be a massive indulgence. 1. THE CHOCOLATE TOFFEE TURTLE The mere appearance of this dessert is so alluring that you can't resist the temptation to dig in. Digging into this enormous blend of vanilla ice cream, melted brownie ice cream, cookies, chocolate sauce, salted caramel sauce and loads of roasted peanuts was the perfect epitome of foodgasm for me and my favorite dessert for the evening. The crunchiness from the nuts and cookies matched creaminess of the ice-creams in a spectacular way. 2. JENGA CHURROS This sweet delight combined the concept of jenga and ice cream sandwich in a sumptuous way. A large scoop of yummy butterscotch ice cream came stacked in between two freshly made, crispy churro discs dusted in sugar and cinnamon. A further topping of chocolate fudge sauce on the churros made further elevated the flavors of this dessert. 3. ESPRESSO'LATE This was yet another enormous dessert creation that had me wondering about my next day's workout plan. Deliciously rich scoops of chocolate and Tahitian vanilla ice creams were layered with crispy cookies and whipped cream to make a towering treat that was drizzled with oodles of sinful hot fudge sauce and an espresso shot. 4. BLACK FOREST Christened after one of the most renowned cakes, this sumptuous, sugary treat does not make its appearance as merely a cake in this eatery but is a gigantic deconstructed version complete with all elements of the black forest cake and ice cream. 5. NETFLIX SUNDAE
Move over regular sundaes that combine ice cream scoops, fresh fruits and nuts. This sweet delight hits your palate hard with its servings of spice laden nachos, masala flavored lays along with the customary triple scoops of ice cream (two butterscotch and one vanilla). If you like to experiment with spicy flavors in your desserts then this dish will not leave you disappointed. 6. SIZZLING FRIES The usual preparation of sizzling brownie is presented with a twist where brownie chunks are sprinkeld onto fries coated in peri peri spice and drenched with tabasco. On this bed of fries, a scoop of vanilla ice cream is placed and then hot chocolate fudge poured over it to compete the dessert. For me the combination of fries with sweet elements was a little amiss and I would prefer to have them the savory way only. A note of caution - Do not visit this place alone as the portion sizes are mighty and you need more foodies with you if you wish to sample the different types of fries and desserts. I had a truly gluttonous experience at Dinshaw’s Xpress Cafe at Oshiwara, Mumbai. So, do try out this place and let me know of your experience. Till then HAPPY EATING... |
