My inclination for Asian grub refuses to die down. So, this time to satiate my taste buds with some delicious Asian food I decided to explore the upscale eatery China 1 in the business locality of Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai. Upon entering the place, the finesse of the spacious, tastefully done up ambience pleases the eye. The mellow down lighting and melodious background music set the mood for a chic dining experience. So, one my friends and me were settled at the table we got into action immediately with the myriad dishes this eatery has to offer. Here is look at my gluttony with a few dishes from the vast menu at this place: APPETIZER COURSE I was off to an appetizing start with the humble yet hearty CHICKEN WONTON NOODLES BROTH SOUP. This non-spicy, almost clear soup was packed with vegetables and two delicious steamed chicken wontons. Next, I tried the SAKE MAKI or the salmon roll and each piece was quite a mouthful. The sushi was fresh and delicious. The fried vegetable starters were pleasing. FRIED TURNIP CAKES had a beautiful chili garlic flavor, were crunchy golden on the outside and velvety on the inside. The CRISPY FRY POTATO HONEY CHILLY comprised of finger chips coated in a sweet and spicy glaze having a conspicuous flavor of ginger. The CRISPY STUFFED MUSHROOMS had a crunchy flour coating and tangy stuffing. Then, came the dumplings that felt lackluster in comparison to the aforementioned appetizers. The CHICKEN LEMON GRASS DUMPLING had overpowering presence of lemongrass that masked the flavor of chicken completely. The VEGETABLE CHIVES DUMPLING had a chunky vegetable filling but did not have any distinct flavor that would wow the palate. In non-vegetarian starters PANKO FRIED PRAWNS were my favorite. Sweet, juicy prawns were flattened out in the shape of a butterfly then covered in panko and were fried to make them crisp. Another non-vegetarian starter that I enjoyed eating was GRILLED CUKAI FISH where pieces of basa fish were laced in a red chili spice mix and grilled to perfection. CRISPY CHICKEN CHEUNG FUN comprised of batter fried piece of boneless, moist chicken wrapped in a sheet of rice noodle. MAIN COURSE After a gluttonous encounter with the appetizers, downing the main course seemed an uphill task. But, the simplicity and deliciousness of mildly flavored GINGER CAPSICUM FRIED RICE and flavorsome VEGETABLE CHILI BUTTER NOODLES ensured I did not skip the main course. SHREDDED CHICKEN IN HUNAN SAUCE & EXOTIC VEGETABLES IN CHILI CORIANDER SAUCE were your quintessential medium spicy Asian gravies that we paired with the rice and noodles. DESSERT COURSE
The wrap to the aforementioned elaborate meal too had to be elaborate and was rightly done so with four sweet treats. Indulgence in WHITE CHOCOLATE BREAD PUDDING was pure bliss. In my opinion it was the best dessert of the four that I ended up sampling. The sweetness from white chocolate did not overpower the other elements of this silken textured dessert and the delicate flavors of this dish lingered on the palate till one was rapt with a sense of contentment. I chomped on the crispy CHOCOLATE SPRING ROLLS and moist HOT BROWNIE WITH VANILLA ICE CREAM drizzled with berry coulis without a whimper. The HAZELNUT PASTRY was your regular creamed up piece of cake and was not such a draw for me. So, do try out this place and let me know of your experience. Till then, HAPPY EATING... |
