Many people are blessed with a sweet tooth. But, I thank my Creator for blessing me with sweet gums and I am often in search of places that can serve them well. Therefore, the information of opening up of Hyderabad’s popular baked delights shop Karachi Bakery in Mumbai was a welcome news.
Until this Mumbai store started operations, I would depend on family and friends visiting Hyderabad and I would hand over a list of biscuits they had to fetch as a mandate on their return to Mumbai. But, now I presume they will breathe a sigh of relief as I can source all my stock of yummy biscuits from the bakery’s Mumbai store in Linking Road locality of Bandra West.
So, without wasting much time I rushed to the store on a Saturday evening to grab my favorite biscuits. The place also dishes up scrumptious cakes, pies, pizza & pasta as well. Also, there is a small space at the rear of the store where a handful of people can make themselves comfortable and enjoy the fares at the store itself.
So, here is a look at my gluttonous exploration of the Karachi Bakery, Mumbai:
While at the bakery I decided to skip the fruit biscuits that I usually indulge in and try out their other tasty varieties. I began by gorging on the popular OSMANIA BISCUITS. These are somewhat similar in texture to our traditional nankhatai and are made of just four ingredients – flour, ghee (clarified butter), sugar and salt. The biscuits were crusty and had a lovely buttery flavor. Next, I tried the ITALIAN SPICY COOKIES. These were the savory variety with the flavor of cheese, oregano and chilli flakes shining through. Subsequently I tasted the WALNUT COOKIES that were crunchy, had a subtle sweetness and were strewn with minute chunks of walnuts. If you have a penchant for chocolate and cookies then this place will not disappoint you. Their HAZELNUT CHOCOLATE and BELGIAN CHOCOLATE cookies are rich and delightful.
CAKES & PIES
Moving beyond numerous shelves showcasing the wide variety of biscuits lies the cake and pie counter. Here too there is an extensive assortment of different flavors and types of cakes.
I indulged in two different varieties of POUND CAKE – STRAWBERRY & BLUEBERRY. Both the versions were dense, moist and had a tart center of the respective fruit preserves. The blueberry one though came with a dusting of icing sugar while the strawberry one had a glazed topping of almond slivers.
Next, I tried the MINI CUPCAKES. These were available in two flavors – VANILLA & CHOCOLATE. Their mere sight was enough to set me salivating. Both the varieties were luscious and tasted equally good as their appearance.
Now, it was time to chomp on different fruit flavored pastries. I decided to sample the LYCHEE PASTRY and the seasonal MANGO PASTRY. The portion size of one pastry was quite filling. The pastries were moist but were too sugary for my liking.
Finally I put an end to my sugar escapade with two subtly sweet pies that the bakery has to offer. The APPLE PIE was crumbly and had a lovely cinnamon flavor. The BLUEBERRY PIE too was flaky and had a beautiful, tart blueberry filling.
PASTA & PIZZA
For the first time in my food journey so far I commenced my gluttony with desserts and ended it with savory dishes. I went in for a saucy, vegetarian PENNE PASTA IN TOMATO SAUCE and a cheese laden VEGETABLES PIZZA. Both dishes were lip-smacking and provided a change of flavor to the palate.
I had a wonderful time exploring this new outlet. Do try out this place and let me know of your experience.
Till then, HAPPY EATING…
