INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY SPECIAL: A HOMELY GLUTTONY

As a working professional with erratic working hours, I am always pressed for time when it comes to preparing my meals.

But, I seem to have found the solution to my problem in the form of meal/tiffin service called HOMELY, which has aligned with home cooks in Andheri (E), Andheri W, Powai, Kanjurmag (E & W), Vikhroli (E&W) and Thane (W) localities of Mumbai. Therefore, they cater to food orders originating from these areas only currently through their website www.homelynow.com and their mobile app Homely.

So, in order to sample their fares, I decided to place order for a non-vegetarian meal lunch. The food arrived on time and was neatly packed. A hand-written note from the home cook or Yum-maker as Homely calls them explained the items in the meal for the day. The offerings change each day. One look at the quantity and I was sure that the home cook had indeed thought of a glutton while putting this meal together. Yes, the quantity was way too filling for one individual and I ended up sharing my lunch with my colleagues.
Here is what my lunch order comprised of:
  • Chicken Russian Kebabs - 4 nos.
  • Chapatis - 3 nos.
  • Chana Dal
  • Jeera Rice
  • Dessert - Oats & Chocolate bites
  • A sweet surprise of milk with rose syrup
  • Pickle and Ketchup as accompaniment
The goodness of the home cooking was very well reflected in the kebabs. These were medium sized, mildly spiced and shallow fried. If you were to order these at a restaurant they would generally come dripping in oil and leave you with a feeling of guilt for consuming them. A quantity of four of these in my meal left me fully satiated.
The chapatis were made of whole wheat and were soft in texture. Chana Dal was delicious, tempered to perfection and went superbly well with jeera rice that was lightly flavored with golden fried onions.

The oats and chocolate bites in dessert too proved to be a sweet delight one would not repent indulging in. It came adorned with walnuts and raisins. Also, the drink of milk and rose syrup that came with the lunch was tasty and refreshing.

The aforementioned non-vegetarian meal and even a vegetarian meal of similar kind are priced in the range of INR 120 – 155 per meal. A meager sum of INR 10 is further added to this sum as delivery charge. You can get more information about this meal service and the different preparations they provide on their website and mobile app.

If I had some up the meal in few words I would say it was delicious, wholesome and value for money. The meal was indeed reminiscent of food one enjoyed back at home. It comes as no surprise now why Homely calls these home cooks Yum-makers.

So, do try out Homely and let me know of your experience.

Till then, HAPPY EATING...
