![]() Mumbai is a melting pot of various cultures. One such community that adds its touch to Mumbai are the Sindhis. I love their staple food preparation right from koki to Sindhi kadhi to tosha to saibhaji and many more as they are hearty and delicious. But, my favorite dish is DAL PAKWAN. This comprises of Pakwan, a deepfried crispy bread (puri) made of maida (all-purpose flour) along with a lentil preparation, the Dal. The Dal is a chickpea preparation with a mild seasoning and is not spicy. Various chutneys and chopped onions are provided on the side should you require a punch to this dish.
But, I love this preparation in its simplest form without adding any of the sides mentioned to it. This dish is eaten for breakfast and I have enjoyed it at homes of Sindhi friends. For those who don't have Sindhi friends do not be disheartened there are places across Mumbai that dish up this yummy preparation for breakfast. Two such places in Mumbai that I love to get my Dal Pakwan from are: 1. Vig Refreshment, Chembur 2. Sindhu Sweets, Khar (W) Do try this dish out and let me know what you think about it. Till then , HAPPY EATING...
