Once I was content with my visit to the Golden Temple, I decided to explore the numerous humble eateries around the city to get the much needed dose of delicious, vegetarian food.
Here is my exploration of some of the food places:

Amritsari Aloo Kulcha Thali & Dal Makhani with Special Tandoori Lacchedar Parantha @ Bharawan da Dhaba
Perfect as a hearty breakfast, the thali comprises of two big, generously stuffed and ghee-laden aloo kulchas. The kulchas were piping hot and extremely lip-smacking. They came with sides of tasty chole masala, curds and chopped onions.
This was the richest Dal Makhani in terms of flavor I have ever had till date. With a the lacchedar parantha, the dish was not only a feast for the eyes but for all the senses and was simply amazing.

Rajma Chaval & Lassi @Brother’s Dhaba
If you manage to get over the amazing kulchas and paranthas, then the humble rajma chaval is always there to satisfy your taste buds. Simple flavors yet strong aromas and taste characterize this dish.
A huge glass of sweet, creamy lassi just completed the meal.

Sarson da Saag aur Makki di Roti @ Balle Balle Dhaba enroute Attari on NH1
If you want to experience this city's true flavors, then you have to visit the humble dhabas that dot the city as well as the NH1 route from Amritsar to Attari station. At this dhaba we came across extremely scrumptious sarson da saag, which I think one can find only in this part of the country.

Bansal Sweets
Pinni and besan laddoos are two sweets you have to pick up once you are visiting the city. Laden with ghee both these are mouth-melting preparations. Shelf life of these two sweets is about a week.

Chaat at Street Side Stalls in Amritsar
Piping hot aloo tikkis with tamarind chutney and chopped onions is a combination to die for. This is a must try while exploring the streets of Amritsar.
Bharwan Golgappe comprise of oval shaped suji puri and came with a delicious filling of lentils and sweet curd. My mouth was experiencing a burst of flavors with each bite.

So, do try out this food and the places the next time you are visiting Amritsar.

Till then, HAPPY TRAVELLING...
